What Is A Starting Point?
If you have ever run into the problem of not knowing how to learn a programming language, then you are not alone. So many people struggle with wanting to know the “best” or the “fastest” way to learn a new programming language for many reasons. Some want to get a new job, while others want to use it to progress at their existing job. Still others simply want to learn a new skill for fun or as a hobby.
Regardless of what your goals are, I have the solution for you! What you need is guidance. What you need is a sure fire plan that will get you up and running quickly. You need to build confidence, have fun, and see results that will continue to motivate you into the future. What you need is a Starting Point!
What exactly is a Starting Point?
A Starting Point is a plan of action to get you up and running, and productive, with a new programming language in the shortest amount of time possible. This Starting Point will introduce you to the language, the tooling and the terminology and getting you not only writing code, but writing code quickly!
Who Is A Starting Point For?
A Starting Point is specifically designed with people that are starting to learn a new programming language in mind. A Starting Point assumes that you are starting from nothing and want the absolute best chances of not only learning a new programming language, but also having it stick! The last thing you want is to follow along with a tutorial or online course, copy and past some code, and then a week later forget everything you just learned.
What about people with experience?
Afraid that if you are an experienced programmer that a Starting Point isn’t for you?
Starting Points are also good for those that are looking to come back to a programming language after awhile and just want to review the basics. Remember, this is a guided plan that will walk you through the basics of a programming language in such a way to help it stick in your head the way you have never known before.
How Does A Starting Point Work?
Starting Points are specifically designed to take advantage of your brain’s ability to retain new information that is regularly practiced and associated with common things in your life. Have you have ever tried to quickly memorize something in the short term only to realize a day or two later that you can’t remember it?
If so, you have encountered the dreaded Forgetting Curve. The forgetting curve is simply your brain’s way of freeing up storage space for information that it deems “necessary”. In order to remember the fundamentals of your programming language, you need to learn how to make this information “necessary”.
During the process of a Starting Point, you will learn to “hack” your brain into being able to retain the information you have recently been working on. You will also learn to programmatically commit key concepts to memory that you will be able to recall at a moments notice up to weeks, months, even years later. That way, you will have a solid foundation of knowledge that you can continually build on whenever you need.
How Long Is A Staring Point?
A Starting Point is not necessarily a quick process. Remember, the goal here is to systematically teach you a new programming language in such a way that your new knowledge will stick with you. In order to accomplish this goal, you are going to need to follow a very specific order of operations at predefined intervals to take full advantage of your brain’s power. That being said, each Starting Points duration will vary.
Starting Points are specifically designed to give you the best chance in creating a solid foundation on which to build. Generally speaking they are about two weeks in length and contain several different types of learning resources and adhere to a prescribed schedule. This way, you always know what you will be learning and when you will be learning it.
How Much Does A Starting Point Cost?
With all the information I’ve been giving you about a Starting Point, you must be wondering how much this is going to cost. The answer to this question is actually quite easy…
One of my deepest passions is helping people to learn how to write code. Writing code gives me joy, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. And I want to share those feelings with YOU!
There are so many other things that you have to focus on when learning a new programming language, that I want to do my best to teach you the fundamentals without you having to worry about things like money. I want you to learn a language because you love it and have a passion for it!
How Long Do You Get To Use A Starting Point?
Once you get access to a Starting Point, it’s yours.
This means that you can go through the Starting Point as many times as you want. You can refer back to it at any point in time now or years later. All the code that you write is yours. Having to find old documentation, tutorials, or online courses that you took years ago can be hard. But by following along with your Starting Point, you will create lots of great code and quick references back to it so you can always use your own code for reference later on!
How Do You Get Access To A Starting Point?
Great question! The list of Starting Points that will be accessible is going to grow over time. Because these Starting Points are a labor of love, I will be spending lots of time designing and implementing them to be sure that you get all the care and attention you need while learning a programming language.
When new Starting Points become available, I will notify all of my newsletter subscribers first! So if you want to be the first to know, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter to get the latest news.
I will also be notifying all of my Instagram followers when new Starting Points come out, but that will generally be a couple days later.
You can also refer back to the Starting Points page to see if there are any new ones available.
If you made it this far learning about Starting Points, I’m thoroughly impressed! I want to personally thank you for your interest in not only learning to write code, but also using Starting Points as a mechanism to get there. Without you, I wouldn’t have the love of teaching.
